K2C's 10th year at the Tourism Indaba

News: DURBAN – Kruger2Canyon was proud to represent the Lowveld at yet another Tourism Indaba. It was however a very different Indaba. ‘Hello, Twitizens!’ This was the intro to one of Martin Hatchuel’s newsletters this week, and correctly so, as social media certainly seems to be the biggest dynamic facing the tourism industry and Indaba itself going forward. Without a doubt social media is the biggest growth point in worldwide marketing and it is massive in tourism. The question is – will Indaba survive the changes or will it become an obsolete exercise?

‘It was not the lion’s fault’

News: HOEDSPRUIT - On May 13 a group of tourists from Singapore were visiting Tshukudu Game Lodge and doing the usual activities which includes game drives and morning walks. On one of the morning walks which sometimes go out with orphaned animals, a lion cub attacked a female guest. This incident has been widely published in the media. To set the record straight, Kruger2Canyon got the facts from Chris Sussens, farm manager at Tshukudu.

Hoedspruit – town of the year?

News: HOEDSPRUIT - As every one knows Hoedspruit has been chosen as one of the three finalists in the Limpopo Kwêla/Rapport Town of the Year competition. Kwêla and Rapport will be visiting us from May 29 to June 1 and we would like our town to be clean and tidy for this occasion! Hoedspruit Farm Watch urge all our residents to cut their grass against the shoulder of the road and to remove all rubble. Hoedspruit is going to be featured on Kwêla and in Rapport and this will be a great opportunity to market our town as a prime tourist destination. Southern Cross show their skill at chess

Sport: PHALABORWA - On May 9, 12 SCS chess players from Grade 4 to Grade 9 participated in a Chess Tournament at Kingfisher School. This is an annual event and the players have over the years become better and stronger opponents to play against!

Buurskole kompeteer op sportvelde

Sport: KAMPERSRUS – Die netbaldogters van Drakensig het op 8 Mei teen Mariepskop op die testaangekom. Die Drakie spanne het oortuigend gewen, maar die Riepie dogters het nooit handdoek in gegooi nie en enduit gekompeteer vir ‘n doel. Baie geluk aan die spanne van Drakensig met hulle oorwinnings. Op 9 Mei was dit die seuns se beurt om hulle talent op die rugbyvelde ten toon te stel toe Heuwelkruin al die pad van Polokwane gekom het om kragte te meet. Twee van Mariepskop se spanne het met die louere weggestap terwyl die eerste span net-net die spit moes afbyt teen Heuwelkruin. Sportmangees het geseëvier en dit was ‘n aangename sportdag vir beide skole.

Lumukisa Garden Club gets a boost

News: ACORNHOEK – The Lumukisa School Garden Club wishes to express a most heartfelt thank you to Buco who generously sponsored gardening equipment for the school. The children can now really ‘dig’ into keeping up their individual plots of vegetable which are their pride and joy. We all look forward to continued good harvests.

Lumukisa Top Ten

News: ACORNHOEK - 80 learners from Grade R to Grade 7, who achieved academic Top Ten status at Lumukisa Preparatory School in the first term were rewarded last week. The teachers raised funds to initiate this motivation to excel and hope to continue rewarding learners each term. Sponsors are welcome to participate in the very worthy cause which aims to maintain a high level of education and motivation.

Drakies spog met Limpopo speler

Sport: HOEDSPRUIT - Drakies is in hulle skik met hul Limpopo rugbyspeler, Nakapedi Masete. Nakapedi is vir die Limpopo rugbyspan gekies wat van 24 – 29 Junie aan die Craven Week in Bloemfontein gaan deelneem. Baie geluk Nakapedi, ons is baie trots op jou!

Drakie netbal 100% suksesvol

Sport: KAMPERSRUS - Op 8 Mei het Laerskool Drakensig hulle tweede liga wedstryd teen Laerskool Mariepskop gespeel. Drakies het hulle harde oefening en suksesvolle afrigting tentoongestel toe hulle al hul wedstryde wen! Die O/13s kon nie op die dag speel nie weens beserings, maar sal op 22 Mei hierdie wedstryd uitspeel. Drakies se netbalpersoneel sê dankie aan Linzie Dreyer en die Riepie afrigters vir die aangename ontvangs en georganiseerde dag.

Drakies takel ATKV onderwerpe

News: LOUIS TRICHARDT - Nege leerlinge van Laerskool Drakensig het aan die ATKV Redenaarskompetisie op 4 Mei deelgeneem. Met onderwerpe wat gewissel het van ‘Skatte, hande, hekke, resepte en wurms’ het die Drakies die wêreld aan die brand gepraat! Baie geluk Drakies! Ons is trots op julle.

A clinic opening in the wild

News: HOEDSPRUIT - It was not the obvious place to look for a medical clinic. The dirt road seemed to go on forever beyond the Timbavati Headquarters, and at one stage the convoy of cars and minibuses taking guests to the clinic opening had to wait while a large heard of buffalo slowly cleared the road. Eventually we came to the Phelwana gate, and inside the gate found two very neat buildings and a marquee all set up for celebrations.

Bush craft for young explorers

News: BOOK REVIEW - The recently published ‘Get Bushwise: On Safari - Desert, River, Bushveld - A Young Explorer's Guide’ by Nadine Clarke (Random House Struik) is a delightful and very well presented book, which should get any young person exited about our fascinating wildlife. The book is nicely laid out, and uses both photos and drawings for illustration. There is a wealth of information, and it is all communicated in an interesting and accessible way.
