On the 24th of September, the students of the Daktari Outreach Programme celebrated Heritage Day at the Oaks. Many people were there to see some amazing performances: Gumboot, traditional songs, poems… The show aimed at remembering what the ancestors have left behind, but not only what is in the past, what is in the future too. To do so, the main message was to encourage the community to respect and look after the environment and the animals.
The Maahlamele Outreach Programme students attend a nature conservation course after school every week, not because it is compulsory, but because they want to learn more. Environmental awareness is a priority for Daktari Bush School & Wildlife Orphanage and the best way to succeed is through education.
How can you help? If you are a private individual, you can join the Daktari Outreach Programme’s Facebook page and/or support financially by simply sending an email to outreach@daktaribushschool.org.
If you are a company, the Daktari Outreach Programme is always looking for free placements for the learners to gain some work experience. So if you would like to share your knowledge to the benefit of local youth, please contact Claire (082 656 2969) and she will find you the best candidate for your needs

The perfect way to spend World Environment Day

20 June 2014 By Sarah Bergs
News: HOEDSPRUIT - Nine children from a school in Acornhoek hopped into the Green Kidz Jungle Bus and spent an amazing morning game viewing, guided by wonderful Bushwise staff! Elephants were high up on the rave list, but second best was probably the delicious brunch. A great morning in the bush - learning and experiencing what nature has to offer, and seeing animals round every corner! Thanks to Bushwise Field Guides for giving this opportunity to children who live so close to major reserves, yet have little or no access to them. This was an eye-opening conservation opportunity for them!
