On November 12 Samantha Sanders from Hoedspruit attended a formal prize giving at the Ngwenyama Lodge where the voice of cycling: Phill Liggit, and Totalsports joined the cyclists for some good coverage of this Celebration of Cycling. Despite the fact that Sam has only been cycling competitively for a year now, she piled up the trophies, raking in top honours in three categories in which she was placed first in South Africa!

Samantha is national champion

22 July 2011 By Kerstin Nyberg Peart
Sport: Hoedspruit cyclist Samantha Sanders claimed victory in the Women’s Elite Pro Category in this year’s Cycling South Africa Mountain Bike (MTB) Championship. What makes her victory even more remarkable is that she was the only unsponsored rider in her category. She has no back-up team of technical coaches, fitness experts, or mechanics, and no back up bikes. While holding down her day job in her parents’ business in Hoedspruit, Samantha repairs and maintains her own bike and follows a rigid training programme.

Well, here we have an opportunity not only to support someone on our doorstep, but also to follow Sam Saunders as she steps up to the challenge of cycling for South Africa in 2012. Kruger2Canyon is challenging our readers to make whatever contribution you can to help Sam get there, and give her a shot at the 2012 London Olympics! Be generous and be a part of this amazing opportunity - Heidi Lee Smith

The sky is the limit

Sport: Now this was no casual hike, or was it? For the father-son team of Gary and Ryan Strong, it took little more than a decision to ‘give it a try’ to inspire them to tackle the summit of Kilimanjaro! The young adventurer, who chose to take his school flag to the top of Africa’s highest mountain, told Kruger2Canyon that he didn’t do any special training other than his regular cycling, running and swimming to prepare for the climb.
